The Whipper is one of our signature hats, and it carries a lot of what WhipperWill is about.
This one starts with a modified Gus crown, with a mule kick in the front that gives the hat its shape and attitude. It has a rugged western feel, but it is not trying to be flashy for the sake of it. The shape is practical, familiar, and a little rough around the edges in the right way.
I think of The Whipper as the kind of hat that makes sense outside. It works for someone who wants a dependable hat for markets, trails, work, camp, or just everyday wear. It has enough character to stand out, but not so much that it feels hard to wear.
The crown is really what gives this hat its identity. A standard Gus crown already has that sloped, working-western look, but the mule kick adds a little more movement to the front. It changes the whole feel of the hat without overcomplicating it.
The Whipper is made to order and shaped by hand. The standard build is 100% rabbit fur felt, with material upgrades available in 50/50 rabbit-beaver blend or 100X beaver felt. Colour availability can vary by material and supplier stock, so some colours may only be available in certain felt options.
If The Classic is the clean traditional option, and The Gravedigger is the darker, harder-edged one, The Whipper sits somewhere in the middle. Rugged, useful, and built to be worn.
