A custom hat is for when you don’t want to pick something off a shelf and hope it feels right.
This is the option for a hat built around you, the felt, colour, crown, brim, band, and finishing details. Some people come in with a clear picture in their head. Others have a rough idea: western, outdoors, fedora, something darker, something cleaner, something with a little attitude. That’s enough. We can work from there.
A hat has to be thought through as a whole. A crown shape that looks great on one hat might feel wrong with a certain brim. A bold band can make a simple shape come alive, or it can make the whole thing too busy. That’s the part I like working through with people. Not just “what do you want?” but “what actually makes sense for the hat you’re going to wear?”
After your order is placed, I’ll contact you directly so we can go over the details before the build starts. We’ll talk about sizing, head shape, colour, materials, brim style, crown shape, and the kind of look you’re after. I’d rather slow down at the beginning and get those decisions right than rush into a hat that doesn’t quite feel like yours.
Colour availability depends on supplier stock. Felt colours come and go, especially with specialty colours. If you’re set on one specific colour and it’s out of stock, we may have to wait for it to come back in. We can still get the design figured out in the meantime so we’re ready when the right felt is available.
Exotic material hat bands are available, but they do add cost. Snake, gator, crocodile, ostrich, buffalo, moose, and similar materials carry an additional charge because they cost more to source. That will always be discussed before anything is finalized. No surprise charges, and no pressure to choose something exotic if it doesn’t suit the hat.
Non-exotic band options can include cordage, fabric, deer leather, cowhide, and standard leather. A simpler band is often the better choice. It depends on the hat.
Every custom WhipperWill hat is made to order, shaped by hand, and built for the person who is actually going to wear it.
