The Gravedigger is one of our signature hats, and it is not the quiet one.
This one has a darker western feel right from the start. The coffin-top crown gives it a sharper, more deliberate shape than a standard cattleman, and the wide brim gives it the kind of presence you notice before you’re close enough to see the details. It’s bold, but it still needs to be wearable. That balance matters. A hat can have attitude without turning into a costume.
I built this shape for someone who wants a western hat with more edge to it, something rugged, a little severe, and still practical enough to wear outside. The wide brim gives good coverage from sun and weather, while the crown gives the hat its character. It is not trying to be polished or delicate. That is the point.
The tooled leather band, feathers, and finishing details help push the look further, but those pieces may vary depending on what is available when the hat is made. I’d rather use details that actually suit the finished hat than force the exact same decoration onto every build.
The Gravedigger is made to order and shaped by hand. The standard build is 100% rabbit fur felt, with material upgrades available if you want to move into a 50/50 rabbit-beaver blend or 100X beaver felt. Colour availability can vary by material and supplier stock, so some colours may only be available in certain felt options.
If you want something clean and traditional, I’d probably point you toward The Classic. If you want something with more bite, a hat that looks like it has a story before you even put it on, this is the one.
